Solutions between Salobreña and Padul

Priameco SL got in touch with our sales department when they were looping for a balanced solution technically and financially balanced solution for some works they were doing. A real gift. A residents' community on the sea front had commissioned them to fix a situation that could serve as a textbook case for concrete design institutes and building-pathology specialists.

As with other pathologies, it’s not easy for the sales team to drag us out of our lab, away from our test tubes and analytical apparatus, but one glance at some smartphone photos was enough for us to leave all our tests and books behind. Everyone who works in the technical department at a mortar plant enjoys a challenge and is reluctant to write anything off as impossible. But when our colleagues received confirmation that we had read their email with the photos, we were already knocking on the door of Pérez Lázaro Salobreña for them to take us to the scene of the “crime”.
Cement-poor concrete, its rendering missing, twenty years old and on the sea front — more than enough to explain what we found there. With the diagnosis on the table, we set to work on a treatment.

1. Complete cleaning and brushing down of the deteriorated concrete and steel

2. Applying a rebar-passivising agent to protect what's left of the steel section

3. Applying a concrete–concrete epoxy bridging joint to assure the joint

4. Applying a heavy-duty, high-adherence, non-shrinking thixotropic mortar, assuring the minimum rendering specified for this environment under the applicable regulations. In this case the product chosen was Argotec Repairs. The aim is to achieve what José Ramón Penae, the former Technical Director at Cementos Asland Andalucía, repeated over and over again: “Cement is steel’s best protector, to assure the coating of the reinforcement, so concrete with the cement specified under the regulations if you don’t want to end up with no structure.”

The result looks as though it was prescribed by a mortar multinational and carried out by a specialist firm with years of experience, but that is not the case. The team from Priameco (Salobreña) did the job with Swiss accuracy and the products used were designed and made by a company from Granada.
